I was just diagonosed with hashimotos disease (autoimmune thyroiditis) two months ago. This summer I was hyperthyroid and miserable. Now I have switched over to hypo. I just started taking synthoid but really think some serious adjustments are due. I sleep alot and I can't keep my mind on anything for any length of time. I hope this gets better as the Dr. adjusts my meds. I am glad to join a group of people who can relate.

John,
Just curious, what tests did your doctor due to diagnose Hashimoto's?
When I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism (mine doesn't work at all) my doctor was old school and didn't do a thyroid scan, just blood work.
So, I'm curious if a thyroid scan or a specfic blood test determines Hashimoto's? -

Testing for thyroid antibodies in blood is a good way to determine Hashimoto's. I asked my doctor to add that test to my basic TSH test and it came back elevated. I have an appointment for Thursday and I'm not sure what questions to ask. From my research on the Internet, it sounds like mainstream doctors just treat it with thyroxine the same as any other hypothyroidism.
